Older dogs tend to take longer to adapt to change than puppies. This will not be an overnight transition. It could take weeks, and in some cases, even months for them to feel at home with their new families. This a big change for them, so they will require an owner who is patient and willing to take the time to earn their trust while they adapt.
During this transition, they should be kept away from open exterior doors, such as not leaving the door open while getting groceries out of the car, or crating them prior to opening the front door for deliveries, etc. to prevent any attempt to escape while they are getting to know their new families.
Older dogs should always be kept on a leash when outside of the home while transitioning.
If you are wanting to skip the puppy stage, older dogs can be a great choice as they are typically already potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained, and might even know a few commands. Which is great! But please also keep in mind that they are making a huge change and will require much patience from you.
The first few nights are always the most difficult. They may choose not to eat, get an upset stomach, or whine and bark. This is temporary and will typically subside over a few days. If you think you have the patience and love required to adopt an adult dog, please send us a message.

Naza is a two year old blue merle female who was born here with us. She has never been bred and we have decided to let her be a pet and companion to a wonderful family or individual. She has a medium energy level and would do best with someone who can exercise her well on walks, hikes, or a nice game of fetch. She is potty trained, and crate trained. She loves people and other dogs though she can be shy at first. She loves bully sticks, chew toys, carrots, and belly rubs. She wags her entire rear end in excitement and is a very sweet girl.
